Afternoon at the Jerome
Jane Chapin
June 9, 2017

Born in Berwick, Pennsylvania, Jane Chapin is an American impressionist painter who uses a traditional approach, painting studies on location to use as the basis for her studio work. She counts Sargent and Sorolla as major influences, as can be seen in her figures and use of light and shadow. Hearing the story of a wounded veteran during a cross-country painting trip in 2007 inspired Chapin to tell the stories of heroism, loss, and strength of families who lost a loved one in active duty. All sales of Land of the Free Gold Star Families Edition , a book of her paintings, go to veterans’ and survivors’ charities. The artist lives in St. Petersburg, Florida.
