T. J. English is the author of ten nonfiction books, four of which have been New York Times bestsellers (Havana Nocturne, The Savage City, Paddy Whacked, and Where the Bodies Were Buried). He specializes in studies of the criminal underworld and the justice system in the United States. In 2023, his book Dangerous Rhythms: Jazz and the Underworld received the PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award.
