Michael Emmerich serves as Director of the Office of Worship for the Archdiocese of Omaha, leading the music program at Saint Cecilia’s Cathedral. Active as a church musician, he has previously held positions at Houston’s Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, and at parishes in Indiana, Kansas, and Nebraska. Recent choral and organ compositions have been featured on concerts in London, Spain, Poland, Texas, and Ohio. As an organist, Emmerich has performed at both regional and national conventions of the American Guild of Organists, while also being featured by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) and on American Public Media’s “Pipedreams Live!” He completed his doctorate in Church Music at the University of Kansas in 2020, studying organ with James Higdon and conducting with Michael Bauer. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Emmerich holds the interdisciplinary Master of Sacred Music degree. At Notre Dame his teachers included Craig Cramer, Delbert Disselhorst, Peter Jeffery, and Margot Fassler. He did an undergraduate degree in organ performance in his native Lincoln at the University of Nebraska with Christopher Marks and George Ritchie.
