    Bernard of Clairvaux

    Bernard of Clairvaux (1090–1153) was a Cistercian monk and mystic. Born in Burgundy, France, he was the founder and abbot of the abbey of Clairvaux, an eloquent writer, and the advisor for several popes. He is considered to be one of the most influential church leaders of the Middle Ages.
