Book Manuscript Submissions

Plough is a well-respected, but small, independent publisher. Due to limited resources and editorial capacity, we are not in a position to accept a majority of the unsolicited submissions we receive. However, you are welcome to submit book proposals to our editorial team for consideration. We recommend you browse our backlist first to see if your book fits in with our editorial lineup.

Unless you tell us otherwise, we assume that all submissions are being offered to us exclusively and that no piece accepted for publication will be published simultaneously in any form without our knowledge. Work previously published in English cannot be considered. We ask our writers not to use AI to improve their writing; we will reject pieces if we detect or suspect AI-drafted prose.

Book Proposal Guidelines

‍Required: Cover letter including an explanation of why you think your book fits into Plough’s publishing program.
Required: Sample chapter and table of contents.
Required: Prospectus, which should include: working title, subject, author bio, qualifications (Why are you the right person to write this book?), manuscript completion date, intended audience, special features or benefits (What gap does your book fill?), marketing strategies, potential endorsers.
- The prospectus should include a description of what channels are available to you for helping promote your book, for instance organizations, social media followers (give details), email newsletters, events, and any media experience or contacts.
You may include up to five art or image files where relevant to your proposal, but these must not be larger than 2 megabytes.
If you would like to submit a CV to supplement the information you provide in the prospectus, you may do so as well.

Please do not send us your complete manuscript unless invited to do so.
Please do not send originals or anything that cannot be replaced. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we cannot return any materials you submit, nor are we responsible for lost materials.
Please allow three weeks for a response to electronic submissions, and six weeks for mailed submissions, before following up with us.
