How can we counter fear and stereotypes about Islam among Christians? Join us to celebrate the recent launch of two new books that build bridges between cultures and bring together two faiths all too often at odds.

In Islamophobia: What Christians Should Know (and Do) about Anti-Muslim Discrimination, Jordan Denari Duffner makes the case that Christian faith calls us to combat religious discrimination even when it is not directed toward our own faith community. In Pillars: How Muslim Friends Led Me Closer to Jesus, Rachel Pieh Jones relates how personal friendships with Somali Muslims overcame her prejudices and expanded her faith during nearly two decades of living in the Horn of Africa.

Rachel Pieh Jones has written for the New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, Huffington Post, Runners World, and Christianity Today. In 2003 she moved to Somaliland, and since 2004 she has lived in neighboring Djibouti, where she and her husband run a school. 

Jordan Denari Duffner is an author, educator, and scholar of Muslim-Christian relations. Her books are Finding Jesus among Muslims: How Loving Islam Makes Me a Better Catholic (Liturgical Press, 2017) and Islamophobia: What Christians Should Know (and Do) about Anti-Muslim Discrimination (Orbis, 2021). Jordan is currently pursuing a PhD in Theological and Religious Studies at Georgetown University. A former Fulbright scholar in Amman, Jordan, she is also an associate of the Bridge Initiative, which studies Islamophobia. She lives outside Washington, DC with her husband, Chris.

Hurunnessa Fariad is Head of Outreach & Interfaith at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS Center), and Director of Outreach for Multi-Faith Neighbor’s Network. Ms. Fariad is the Secretary of the Board of Directors at Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, Leadership Circle for One America Movement, Member of the Fairfax County Faith and Equity Committee, and involved with many other faith-based organizations. Ms. Fariad is the founder & Music Director of America's first Mosque Youth Choir, The ADAMS BEAT Choir.
