    Peter Rosegger (1843–1918) was an Austrian writer and poet best known for his novels describing small-town life. After working as a traveling tailor, Rosegger studied at a commercial school in Graz, Austria, and published his first collection in 1869. The son of a farmer, he was especially concerned with social reform, and advocated the spread of rural education.
