There are some people of faith who are tired of the toxic stuff in politics, who just want to sit on the sidelines. Because it’s kind of like, “Hey, you know what? I’m going to sit this one out because it’s ugly in there.” Unfortunately, that’s the posture of someone who is comfortable and who is not asking a broader set of questions about the conditions in which their neighbor is being asked to live out their life. And so it is super important to invest in the context of faith-based institutions and our communities…. I do think that the creativity to think outside of the well-worn grooves of “let’s just fight the other side,” is really possible.
