A Conversation on Hope and Renewal

    May 7, 2020, 8 – 9 p.m. EDT

This year the National Day of Prayer falls in a moment of profound crisis, as did the first one proclaimed by President Lincoln during the Civil War. What hope can people of faith offer our neighbors and fellow citizens, and what can we do to prepare for what comes next?

On Thursday, join community and faith leaders for an evening discussion of the spiritual regeneration we need and in gratitude for the service of first responders and health care workers.

This online event will include a panel discussion addressing these questions, and conclude with a prayer for our nation and world. In the spirit of President Lincoln’s 1863 Proclamation, we will gather to “rest humbly in the hope authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the Nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings, no less than the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our now divided and suffering Country.”

Pastor J. Heinrich Arnold will moderate a conversation with James P. O’Neill, COVID-19 Senior Adviser for New York City; Anne Snyder, Editor-in-Chief, Comment Magazine; Kevin Garvey, FDNY Ambulance Driver; Rev. James Macklin, Director of Outreach, Bowery Mission; Pastor Steve Haas, Senior Engagement Leader, World Vision; and others.

This event, cosponsored by Plough, is organized by Breaking The Cycle, a Bruderhof program to promote reconciliation through forgiveness.
