    Shane Claiborne

    ShaneClaiborne
    • Founding member of the Simple Way
    • Popular speaker on following Jesus radically
    • Author of The Irresistible Revolution
In 1998, along with a few other recent college graduates, Shane Claiborne founded the Simple Way, a community in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood that seeks to live out the revolutionary vision of the Sermon on the Mount: peacemaking, racial reconciliation, and a life rich in relationships instead of possessions. When many other young people were inspired by the Simple Way to start communities of their own, Claiborne emerged as a leading voice in the movement of intentional, urban, Christian communal living known as New Monasticism.

Claiborne says a chance to work alongside Mother Teresa in Calcutta was formative for him, as was being in Baghdad with Christian Peacemaker Teams during the military bombardment of the city. He is a board member of the Christian Community Development Association and a co-founder, with Tony Campolo and others, of Red Letter Christians. His books include The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical; Jesus for President: Politics for Ordinary Radicals, with Chris Haw; Executing Grace: How the Death Penalty Killed Jesus and Why It's Killing Us; and Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals, with Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove and Enuma Okoro.
